Kathleen's Staff Picks:
Title: The Woman in the Window
There is so much I want to tell you about this book but I'm afraid - I don't want to give one single thing away! And the ending - I didn't see it coming. The main character, Anna Fox, is truly an unreliable narrator. Can she be trusted? Is she to be believed? An agoraphobic who has her own troubled life (to say the very least), Anna claims to be a witness to a murder but did the murder even happen??
"No one - and nothing - is what it seems."
Title: What My Body Remembers
If you are a fan of Nordic Noir and enjoyed such books as The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, you will surely enjoy What My Body Remembers by Agnete Friis. I found myself rooting for Ella, the troubled and angry young mother of a 12 year old son as she journeys to remember the murder of her mother. The murder she witnesses as a child and believes her father committed.
Title: A Little Life
A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara is a magnificently beautiful story of friendship between four you men. While beautiful, the tale it tells is often harrowing, devastating and one that haunted me for weeks after I finished reading it. I was consumed by this book often forgoing a night's sleep to stay in the world of Jude, Willem, JB, and Malcolm for a while longer. A truly beautiful book that is skillfully written, A Little Life is one of the best I have ever read.
