Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and in partnership with the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office, we're promoting a month-long community read of the book, No Visible Bruises: What We Don’t Know About Domestic Violence Can Kill Us by Rachel Louise Synder.
Additionally, The Bookloft be donating 4% of gross sales in October to the Elizabeth Freeman Center which works with victims of domestic and sexual violence in Berkshire County.
A little more about Berkshire County's Domestic and Sexual Violence Task Force:
This past year, DA Harrington has started a Domestic and Sexual Violence Task Force to address the crisis of domestic violence in Berkshire County. From 2015-2018 there have been 6 domestic violence homicides. That means 1 out of 3 murders were related to DV. Moreover, the frequency and severity of DV increases with geographic isolation. In rural settings, it becomes increasingly difficult to access direct services and community programs. Our office, in collaboration with the Domestic and Sexual Violence Task Force, is looking to lead the community in prevention and awareness around domestic and sexual violence so that all residents in Berkshire County can be safe.
