Berkshire Books

Welcome to BerkshireBooks.com

We are an online sales department of The Bookloft, an independent bookstore serving the Berkshires since 1974. We specialize in “all books Berkshires”. If you are looking for old, historical books, or out-of-print books on the Berkshires, the Pioneer Valley, Western Massachusetts, New England or New York State, you've come to the right place.

We offer the largest selection of books pertaining to the Berkshires and Western Massachusetts under one roof. Many of the books we offer are exclusive to us – we have reprinted some of the older out-of-print specialty books about the Berkshires through our sister company The Troy Book Makers.

The Berkshires are rich in local history and our regional histories section is our strong-suit. We stock a complete line of local and regional historical books on Berkshire towns including:  Stockbridge, West Stockbridge, Lenox, Sheffield, Great Barrington, Monterey and Otis, Massachusetts, as well as the Hudson Valley, the Catskills and the Adirondacks.

One of our favourite Berkshire historians is local author Bernard A. Drew. Bernie’s specialty is local history and popular reference books. He has contributed to The Berkshire Eagle’s “Our Berkshires” column for over a decade. He sits on the board of directors of the Great Barrington Historical Society and is on the steering committee of Friends of the DuBois Boyhood Homesite.  Nobody knows the Berkshires like Bernie. We carry all of his books – each one a unique glimpse into this very special place.

Beloved outdoor writer Hal Borland is another of our favourites. We have one of the world’s most complete collections of out-of-print editions of Mr. Borland's classic works.

The Berkshires are a secluded paradise filled with rolling hills, scenic overlooks, lakes, rivers and ponds. We offer a wide selection of hiking, biking and paddling guides to the region’s natural treasures, including a full range of topographic USGA maps of all Berkshire towns. In addition, our Natural History Section highlights many books on the birds, flora, wildflowers, waterfalls and stonewalls that grace this beautiful region.

Many famous writers have called the Berkshires home, over the years. Herman Melville wrote Moby Dick at Arrowhead in Pittsfield, MA. The Mount in Lenox, MA, was the home of Pulitzer-prize winning author Edith Wharton. And Catherine Maria Sedgwick grew up in the renowned family’s mansion in Stockbridge, MA. We carry a complete line of the works of these authors, as well as the works of the hundreds of contemporary writers that make the Berkshires their home today.

Finally, the Berkshires are host to several  prestigious cultural venues – Tanglewood (the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra), Jacob’s Pillow (America’s longest running dance festival), The Norman Rockwell Museum and Shakespeare & Company, to name a few. We offer a nice selection of books on the history and people behind these cultural icons.

Visit our wonderful region in person, or from the comfort of your armchair with one of these beautiful literary excursions. Remember, you’re just a click away from the Berkshires at Berkshire Books!
