Come to The Bookloft and hear local author Gerald Elias read from his new book, Devil's Trill, a mystery novel set in the classical world which he knows so well.

Gerald Elias is a composer and has been a member of the Boston Symphony, Associate Concertmaster of the Utah Symphony since 1988, first violinist of the Abramyan String Quartet and Adjunct Professor of Music the University of Utah. The Deseret News wrote, "(Elias) is an exceptionally talented and sublime musician. His musicality is impressive, and his technical skill is unsurpassed."

A native New Yorker, Gerald Elias began violin lessons on Long Island at the age of eight with William Liva, and after nine months was awarded a full scholarship to the Interlochen Summer Music Camp. From 1966-70 Elias studied privately with Ivan Galamian. During his college years at Oberlin College and Yale University, where his violin teacher was then Boston Symphony concertmaster Joseph Silverstein, Elias was also a Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center and was coached by the Guarneri String Quartet at the Norfolk Summer Music Festival. He completed his studies in violin, advanced theory, and composition at Yale in 1975, receiving Bachelor's and Master's degrees with Honors.
