Opened in 1974, The Bookloft is one of the oldest independent bookstores in western Massachusetts. We are located in southern Berkshire County, not far from the historic Red Lion Inn and the renowned Norman Rockwell Museum.
Our goal from the beginning was a simple one, to become “your community bookstore,” and we strive to accomplish this by providing superior customer service at all times. We remain successful long after the rise of book superstores because of our strong commitment to customer satisfaction.
What does it mean to be “your community bookstore?" Simply put, it’s a literary source that you can trust. It is a place where you can congregate, talk about books, express and share opinions about books, learn about new books, and finally, procure a book quickly and easily.
It all starts with a passion for books. The Bookloft booksellers read what they sell and love passing along their comments about particular books to our customers. Ask any of the staff about their Staff Picks and you’ll see their love for the product they sell. If you can’t make it to the store, check out our Staff Picks online for some of our staff’s favorite selections.
The Bookloft has invested heavily in the latest technology, allowing us to research and select books that best meet your needs, likes, and desires. If we don’t have the book in stock, we will locate it (even if it is out of print) and provide it to you in the quickest and most economical way. We welcome special orders!
While we host numerous author events throughout each year, we long sensed a need to expand this beyond our physical borders. That’s why we launched Berkshire Women Write! – a site which allows local authors to express themselves and highlight their works to the general literary public. It is meant to provide a clearinghouse for information, links, and tips that prove helpful to writers. This site is an interactive window into the art and creativity of the many talented women writers who live and work in our community.
The Bookloft remains committed to being your community bookstore, whether you live in the Berkshires, have fond memories of a visit here, or are looking for an online literary community in which you can participate and trust.
